Math September Word Problems Students complete simple word problems in order to focus on strategies such as identifying the question, identifying the operation that is necessary, identifying the most important information and ignoring excess details, and creating sentences that tell the solution. October Problem Solvers Curriculum Students will focus on specific strategies in order to solve problems. Some of the strategies that we will use are: "Using Logical Reasoning", "Making an Organized List." November Continue Problem Solvers Curriculum: strategies to focus on "Making an Organized List" December Continue Problem Solvers Curriculum: strategies to focus on "Use or Make a Picture" or "Diagram" Riddles and Numbrix Puzzlers Reading September Book Groups Students will read and discuss the book The Littles. Book Groups will focus their discussion on making connections to other stories about little characters such as The Borrowers.
Students will practice reading orally with expression and fluency. Students will focus on the characters of the story and discuss the details of each character. Students will participate in a culminating activity at the end of the story to create a small house for The Littles family. Students will practice the writing process by creating their own story as an extension of the story we read as a group. Students will choose another The Littles book and compare and contrast. They will read books silently and independently.
